Along with teaching and creating my own work, I take on a diversity of commissions. Many organizations, churches, interior designers, and fellow artists of all kinds have commissioned work from me. I am used to taking on a wide array of commission ideas that are both functional and sculptural, for indoors or out. Starting with a sketch and a description, I will help you refine your ideas and see your project come to life.
How to start your commission: Email JPuzz17@aol.com with a sketch and a written description of the project. The email should include dimensions and glaze desired. If you’re looking to have something remade that has broken, take photos, if possible, of the broken item. Once that information is received an estimate will be given within two days.
Pricing: The minimum project is $85 plus shipping. The price depends on the size, glaze, and complexity of the form.
Timing: Creating a piece out of clay does take time. Depending on the project, it could take from 4 weeks to 8 weeks, start to finish. Average time is about six weeks.
Though most of my work is thrown on the potter’s wheel, I am very comfortable with hand building and sculptural techniques. Be it a sculpture of a horseshoe crab or a set of eight plates, I can do it all. The entirety of my work is stoneware and is fired to a very high temperature, resulting in a long lasting and durable product.
There are several clays to choose from; terra cotta, white stoneware, porcelain, brown stoneware and speckled brown stoneware.
I develop all my own glazes, so I have a large inventory of colors and finishes to choose from. Please browse through the portfolio page for examples.
Have a custom pair of lamps or a unique chandelier created! I have created, wired, and installed many pieces of art that will provide your room with light.
References: I have plenty of pleased clients, so if you’d like references, don’t hesitate to ask! My latest happy client was the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, CT. I worked with them to create their altar set (photo at the top of this page).
